The MAD (Mechanical Art and Design) Museum does what it says on the tin! This quirky attraction located in the centre of Stratford upon Avon houses around 60 interactive mechanical contraptions and is the only one of its kind in the UK.
What's fascinating about this hands-on hide away is that it combines inspirational creativity, witty design and engineering ingenuity. The pieces on display have been sourced from artists all around the world and the fact that nearly everything is interactive means kids and big kids(!) can really get stuck in. You are encouraged you to press buttons, build marble runs and to "release your inner inventor"

Since initially opening in March 2012, this weird and wonderful museum has become one of the must-see attractions in this tourist town. Lucky enough to showcase some of the worlds finest pieces of Kinetic Art and Automata from pioneering artists all around the world, The MAD Museum is now keen to provide a bigger platform for this increasingly popular type of art. The MAD Museum is bringing some old favourites and crowd pleasers with us, but we will also be displaying a whole new range of exciting never-seen-before exhibits. The MAD Mechanical Art & Design) Museum showcases Kinetic Art and Automata. Based in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, the museum is the only permanent exhibition of its kind in the UK and as such has attracted artists from all over the world who are interested in showcasing their work.
For the uninitiated, the museum is a mix of Heath Robinson and Scrapheap Challenge and a hotchpotch of futurist mechanisms with amazing creativity and ingenuity. The MAD Museum holds over 100 pieces; both large and small with two floors full of far-fetched designs and quirky contraptions.
The museum has become extremely popular with clubs and associations seeking great trips out with an interest in highly inventive machines, witty and clever design and mind-blowing intricate moving contraptions. Perfect for little kids and big kids alike:
For the young ones: Dancing lasers, rolling ball machines, roaring mechanical dinosaur heads and whirligigs all with lots of buttons to press! The MAD Museum offers an exciting visit with an educational bias, relevant to curriculum modules such as Design & Technology and Science. We give children an experience that is worthwhile, educationally beneficial and also a lot of fun!
For those a little older: The MAD Museum offers a chance to experience an extraordinary assortment of both modern and old fashioned, yet highly innovative machines with a bit of physics in action!
